Hear it from them…

August 2, 2011 | Victory School of Wrestling

In this section, athletes participating in the 2011 Victory School of Wrestling Intensive Training Camp will share their insights, feelings and thoughts about the camp.  This activity is designed to help athletes engage in the journaling process at camp to stimulate their “mental muscles.”  It also serves as a primary source for those interested in how we do what we do at Victory.

Desken Hunt – August 3, 3:45 PM

I think that this camp was fun and gave me more experience.  The camp gave me strength physically, mentally and emotionally.  I think that climbing the stairs helped my strength emotionally and mentally.

Lyle Swartz – August 3, 3:30 PM

Well, it was definitely challenging.  It taught me aspects of pushing myself to limits that I thought were beyond my reach.  It also reminded me about how hard it is to not quit and how easy it is to just stop when you know you should keep going.

Ian Ruble – August 2, 3:45 PM

We awoke on day 2 to the sound of an annoying beeping ringtone.  That beeping sound signaled it was almost time to run to the unforgiving Dam Stairs.  We jogged to the stairs and went up and down 3 times.  After that, we did piggy back and wheel barrel with our partner up the stairs.  The we jogged back to Victory.  Next, we rested and a few hours later, we went to practice.  At practice, we had 100 shots on the left, right, over and under.  No one got all of the offensive leg attacks done.  The next practice we focused on finding our “happy place” on all of our offensive leg attacks.  We now await our practice of the day.

Denver Quenette – August 1, 10:40 PM

Well, today was pretty tough because I’m not in tip-top shape.  Soccer was really fun and difficult.  Also, we did live wrestling today which was fun, but I wrestled some really good kids.  I realized that I can get a lot better.  The relaxing time is good.  Where I’m sleeping is pretty peaceful and there are a lot of funny and cool kids.

My goal for my last year is to make it to STATE.  When I get there I’ll worry about how I’m going to do.
